At the digital Watches & Wonders 2021 show, Hublot has revealed the jaw-dropping Big Bang Integral Tourbillon Full Sapphire timepiece. The transparent wristwatch features not only a virtually scratch-proof sapphire crystal case but also a matching integrated sapphire crystal bracelet, which is absolutely mind-blowing.
The various ones with cases made from metal alloys and ceramic all offer 100 meters of water resistance, while those with transparent cases, such as the clear sapphire model and the latest Big Bang Unico Green SAXEM only offer 50 meters. Aside from the sapphire crystal case and unique transparent elements, this watch is the Big Bang UNICO in all ways. The case is 45mm wide and water resistant to 100 meters (something to be proud of) with titanium screws. Hublot does not produce the sapphire crystal case themselves, but refer to a local “Swiss specialist” supplier. Hublot, by producing this timepiece, has achieved what before seemed impossible: crafting a functional wrist watch almost entirely out of transparent sapphire. Sturdy and clear, this material gives wearers an uninhibited view inside the watch’s innerworkings, making the accessory an attractive conversation piece.
A fascinating and highly demanding material, whose total transparency required an absolutely perfect level of finish. Thanks to 3D machining and over 100 hours of work, the Spirit of Big Bang Sapphire Sang Bleu is practically as hard and scratch-resistant as a diamond (9 on the Mohs scale, compared to 10 for diamonds).
