Seeking some advice on the best tools and most effective means for removing the back from a watch case. Are there any tricks or techniques that are helpful to watch owners wishing to become more adept at peeking inside watches with snap-back cases?
The case back is not removable. If it needs work, it needs expert attention. Tool 105 crystal removing tool, or a generic substitute, applies pressure on the crystal. There is a two-part stem assembly that separates and then the movement is removed by a simple quarter revolution twist. The movement is accessed through the dial side- I'd say leave that to a watchmaker, as the crown with the split stem need to be removed first, and then a special pump has to be used in order to increase the pressure, so that the crystal pops out. A crystal lift can be used as well, although it tends to leave marks on the crystal. The first step is actually to remove the stem/crown. This is a split stem so you need to apply some force to pull it out straight. You already know how to remove the bezel (the ring you describe).
