All measurements taken with digital calipers and a kitchen scale. Case Dimensions. Waited 16 months but I finally got my Rolex Explorer II (226570)Case: 42mm, Thickness: 12.4mm, Lug-to-lug: 49.6mm, Lug width: 22mm. Weight 164.5 g / 5.84 ozC. Sure we had the maxi-case era, but as we saw with the latest generation of Submariners, Rolex is redesigning many of these modern case profiles to incorporate slimmer tapered lugs that evoke vintage designs. The Rolex Explorer II 226570, however, introduced a departure from it’s heritage: removing the floating/mystery hands found on the black .
Today, I go hands-on with both the black and white dial reference Rolex 226570 Explorer II models, which refine but don’t revolutionize the classic sports watch formula. Rolex entirely updated the dial, case, movement, and bracelet in a watch that nevertheless fits more or less the same profile as the outgoing 216570 Explorer II models. In terms of design, the main changes are the different proportions of the lugs and the bracelet. The lugs are refined and the bracelet is widened. In addition, the case middle is slightly slimmer while the crown guard offers a more angular profile. While this current modern variant we have here has the larger case size, I will say that the slender tapered lugs, and overall slim thickness of the case are perfection. For what is considered a “larger” Rolex watch it really is not that far off the mark due to these design factors.

The latest version feels honestly perfect. The reference 226570, feels like a larger watch overall then before but more comfortable for sure. In this area current design is improved.
