Rolex explorer 114270 review
The joy this Rolex Explorer 114270 brings me when I put it on the wrist in the morning is immense. To me, it’s an occasion and it speaks to my adventurous side which allows me to dream about a different place and different time when I’m generally just off to the office. My wrist is perhaps just a hair under 7in (probably a shade over in the humidity here right now, lol) and I wear a 124270. It's my first 36mm and I'm a big fan of the size. Makes my IWC Mk XVI now feel too big by comparison.
The 114270 is powered by Rolex’s Perpetual caliber 3130. Like all Perpetual calibers, it’s capable of running within chronometer specs. Whether it does so or not depends on whether and by whom you get your watch serviced.
My local Rolex Dealer called me a couple of weeks back to say he’d got my 214270 Explorer 1 39mm in and it was in the safe waiting for me to collect it. This was the first time I’d actually seen one in the metal. I was underwhelmed by it when I tried it on, too big I thought.
I personally liked the slightly wider bracelet and taper on the older 114270. To me it maintains more of a tool watch feel whereas the newer one felt a bit too dressy because of the aggressive taper. Can’t go wrong but I’m partial to the older model. The Explorer 114270 with solid end-link bracelet and updated Rolex Caliber 3130 movement. This gave way to the Explorer 214270, possibly the single greatest evolution of the Explorer in its history. The case was upsized from 36mm to . My wife has a very, very small 13cm wrist (about 5.12"). I have been looking at a 14270 or 114270 for her and wondered if the bracelet would fit her. Does anyone know the minimum size that a Rolex bracelet would fit? Can it go down as low as 5.2"?
Congratulations on your Rolex Explorer - reference 114270! It is a brilliant watch and looks great on your wrist. I would have purchased a 114270 if it was available for sale to me.
